It was 1986, the vocalist and guitarist of hardcore punk band ‘Minor Threat’, Ian MacKaye, felt like he was destined for a different direction. He was sick of the current trends in the punk scene and wanted a new project “reminiscent of The Stooges, with a slice of Reggae”. Fugazi was born.

Emerging during the late 70s and peaking throughout the 80s, City Pop used western influence and drew from genres such as funk, disco, boogie, R&B and soft rock. This was a completely new sound for the Japanese people. It took very little influence from their predecessors in Japan, completely ignoring them you could argue.
